A Profile of the Artist
COBOS
was born in
a small village, the Spanish Summer Royal retreat of
Aranjuez in 1965. He grew up with an innate flair for
aesthetics fed by the rich heritage of his country’s
past and shaped by the avant garde outrageousness of the
cultural phenomenon of “la movida madrileña”.
At the
age of twenty-one he journeyed to America, arriving in
lush Florida, where he soaked up the possibilities of
the tropics and also began his formal education in
fashion design. He attended the International Academy of
Design and Technology, graduating with a degree in
Fashion Design and Marketing.
After
years of formal apprenticeship and some more traveling,
COBOS unveiled his first ready-to-wear women’s
collection in 1997. His debut became an immediate
success. The designer then devoted his skill to
expanding his vision into evening wear and bridal
couture. His fame expanded as he became renowned for his
opulent, one-of-a-kind gowns. As his clientele grew, his
first shop was born in his original atelier.
COBOS’
style is as unique as the meeting of opposites that
sum up the man behind the label. His creations can be
elegant and sexy at the same time. His artistic use of
luxurious natural fabrics and objects d’art result in
majestic and flamboyant pieces that always create an
impression. His painstaking attention to detail and
original eye go into the making each small component of
an ensemble. This reminds you that having a
hand-crafted, original and unique
COBOS piece on your body is what distinguishes
timeless style from trendy fashion.
Rich
colors, dramatic touches, brilliant execution… style
connoisseurs have said that wearable art comes alive
when it defies what existed before to create the now.
COBOS
has been quoted as saying he designs for women who dream
to dare and the women who dare to dream.
In 2003
the artist moved to New York City, to take in new
influences and expand into accessories. He obtained a
degree in Patternmaking and Technology at the Fashion
Institute of Technology and in 2005
COBOS
launched his first evening-couture handbag collection,
under the label Carmela Bond, a whimsical and flawless
chance to hold the future of style in your hands. |
